First, we'd like to welcome you to the mod! So, before we get started let's get a basic idea why it was wrote to begin with! As you may (or may not) know, this mod was mostly written/textured by Kaelym and Caideenah. Kaelym spends a lot of time planning on how she will be homeschooling her daughter, and since minecraft is now a widely-accepted teaching tool she decided why not code a few things to help teach Jellybean how to count/read? To get started with this, we started simple. A few color-slides here, some basic textures there... Then before we knew it we had 147 color-fixes Just the first week! Being Kaelym's first time doing Java code, she began poking an old friend from Runescape, who helped her understand the basics then set out to understand forge. Fast forward to today, while the base part of the mod is mostly just new textures and old textures in new colors (19 total colors in base game/mod currently), additional stairs for said colors/blocks, it is slowly fleshing itself out with tools etc. and becoming an extended-survival mod.
So what do we mean by saying extended-survival? Let us say you want a Produce Sack. First, you would have to find an iron ore to smelt for an ingot, then you take that ingot to make iron nuggets. Now you go find a few spiders for three string, use one string with two iron nuggets for a needle and thread, and two more string with a stick for a spool of thread. Using these two new items you go hunt cows for 6 leathers. Once you have these leathers you need a crafting table, putting leather in the top and bottom rows, the spool of thread in the left slot of middle row, and needle in the absolute middle slot. Now you have 12 (until bug is fixed) sewn cloths, using these you mimic the recipe with a new needle and thread, and spool of thread for six Produce Sacks!
Sure, this seems like an extremely long winded way of doing much of anything in minecraft, however it teaches youth to follow multiple steps for a finished product. it also gives a visual representation to how many resources are needed to make product in actual society, (hopefully) offering a better understanding why "what we have needs to be taken care of." To push this lesson farther, you could easily turn it into a multiple step math problem. For instance: "how many iron nuggets will you need to make seven sets of produce bags? (14) How many produce bags will you end up with? (74) How many crates will these add up to? (8) How many sewn cloths are left? (2)". Even without the extra learning mixed in, there is plenty to investigate and explore for your average gamer!
